Jurors in the corruption trial of former Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao heard secret recordings of businessman David Duong detailing tensions over city housing deals. The recordings capture how frustrated the Duong family had become with Thao regarding alleged broken promises connected to profitable city housing contracts. A former company employee, who testified under a grant of immunity, secretly recorded board meetings where the discussions took place. Former operative Mario Juarez was also heard on the recordings, warning of serious consequences for breaking political bargains.
